About the Job
The SPS Jump Start Program is perfect for final year speech pathology students looking to get a head start in a career as a school-based speech pathologist. It offers up to 5x paid learning opportunities, where you can observe how our experienced Speech Pathologists work in our partner schools. We endeavour to be flexible around your studying commitments, and provide you with a range of experiences, as service delivery looks very different in each school.
The Jump Start Program:
Offers casual based employment with eligibility for permanent employment upon graduation;
Gives you a deeper insight into how school-based speech pathology services can be delivered, and what collaboration with schools can look like;
Offers opportunities to observe a range of school-based speech pathology supports, such as assessment, individual or group therapy, staff training, or whole-class sessions;
Expands your knowledge base and skills to work as a school-based speech pathologist;
Provides an opportunity to attend one of our quarterly conferences.
Application process:
For 2026, there are two in takes his year, and interviews will take place on these dates:
Intake 1 - Wed 3 Jun 2026 (applications close 12th May)
Intake 2 - Wed 26 Aug 2026 (applications close 4th August)
About You
You will have a passion for changing the lives of students by collaborating with school communities.
You will be energised by the opportunity to work as part of a large group of speech pathologists in a supportive and caring organisation.
You are looking to explore if being a speech pathologist is a school-based context matches your career aspirations.
You will likely be in your final year of studies towards being qualified as a Speech Pathologist eligible for membership of Speech Pathology Australia. You will hold a valid Working with Children check.
